Join us in creating a safer, more open Internet
We manage and protect the Czech national domain
At CZ.NIC, we manage the Czech .CZ domain but our mission goes far beyond that. We focus on internet security, develop domain management systems, and support new technologies and projects that strengthen internet infrastructure in the Czech Republic and around the world.
Our strong development teams work on open-source technologies and build tools for a safer, more open internet. Are you passionate about technology, development, or security? Join us and be part of projects that make a real difference.

Some of our projects you might already know — others you may be discovering for the first time. But they all have one thing in common: a passionate team driving the Internet forward.
MojeID was developed to simplify access to online services and enhance the security of your digital identity. It’s a free service that enables you to log in to hundreds of private platforms and public services (via Citizen Identity), all without the hassle of managing multiple passwords.
MojeID is built on OpenID technology and secured to the same high standards as the .CZ domain registry. Users have full control over their data and they decide what information to share with each login. Accounts can also be protected with a second factor, either via the MojeID Key mobile app or a physical hardware token.

Turris is our open-source router designed to protect homes and businesses from cyber threats and it’s constantly learning new ways to defend itself. With automatic updates and an adaptive firewall, it responds to emerging threats in real time. Built on OpenWrt, it offers maximum freedom for setup and customization.
The success of Turris has been proven by two crowdfunding campaigns on Indiegogo. Turris Omnia raised over $1,223,000 and Turris MOX reached $250,000 — making Turris one of the most successful Czech projects on the platform.

Managing data boxes doesn’t have to be complicated. Datovka is an open-source application that makes it easy to access, manage, and store data messages long-term. Users can download, send, and verify messages in an interface similar to standard email clients.
We’re developing it to meet the needs of not only individuals, but also companies and organizations. With API support, it enables automated data processing for efficient retrieval and advanced management.

Deep in the data center dungeons, CDN and IXP mazes, BIRD patiently and effecitively recalculates the best routes between networks and exchanges all this routing information with its neighbors. BIRD is a free and open-source daemon running on Linux and BSDs. BIRD supports protocols BGP, OSPF, Babel and RIP.
We implement algorithms and data structures on daily basis, all in C, including lockless multithreaded programming. We implement RFCs and help writing new ones. There’s also commercial technical support for our users. Some of us also attend international meetings and conferences.

All .CZ domain registrations run on our own system — FRED (Free Registry for ENUM and Domains). This open-source project was developed by CZ.NIC and has been in operation since 2007. Since then, we’ve been continuously improving it, adding new features and enhancing its functionality.
Today, FRED is used not only in the Czech Republic, but also by 11 other domain registry operators around the world — from Africa to Latin America. Thanks to this global reach, we receive valuable feedback from a variety of environments, helping us make the system even better. Our focus remains on stability, security, and long-term sustainability — both for ourselves and for others.

Managing a domain name system requires speed, reliability, and security, that’s exactly what Knot DNS delivers. We develop an open-source authoritative DNS server used by TLD registries and DNS operators around the world.
Knot DNS supports both primary and secondary configurations, offers automatic DNSSEC signing, and leverages XDP technology to boost performance by up to ten times. This makes it one of the fastest and most advanced DNS solutions for domain system management.

Knot Resolver is an open-source recursive DNS resolver that combines speed, security, and flexibility. Its modular architecture makes it easy to adapt to a wide range of deployments from home networks to large-scale ISP infrastructures.
Knot Resolver focuses on user privacy and efficient DNS query management. Backed by an active community and ongoing development, it’s a reliable choice for organizations around the world.

CSIRT.CZ is the national security team responsible for handling cybersecurity incidents in the Czech Republic. The team monitors threats, analyzes incidents, and works closely with other CSIRT teams around the world.
In addition to its analytical and coordination work, CSIRT.CZ also develops tools that help strengthen cybersecurity — such as Deny lists for automated blocking of malicious content, or Penetration testing services that help organizations identify vulnerabilities before they can be exploited.

Get to know our teams
We enjoy building new technologies, keeping infrastructure running smoothly, protecting the Internet, and supporting our users.
The silent certainty that everything is running smoothly.
Nothing works without infrastructure – and at CZ.NIC, that’s our job. Our team takes care of everything from internal IT support to managing network services, and we're divided into three teams: nic-admins look after internal IT systems, servers, and provide support for colleagues. Sys-admins keep the domain registry, MojeID, and other key services of the Czech internet up and running. Net-admins manage the .CZ domain, DNS, and anycast.
Each team has around five members, and every day we tackle challenges that have a real impact on the Czech Internet.
We’re looking for teammates who are eager to learn, take part in big projects, and help move our infrastructure forward. Are you into infrastructure and networks? Let us know!

We don’t just code – we solve real problems.
We develop and maintain internal tools for CZ.NIC, while also working on projects used by the public like MojeID or the newly launched Domain Auctions. We’re also in charge of the websites for our products and services. Our tech stack is built mainly around Python, and we work with Django, FastAPI, Docker, Git, and SQL.
We’re a team where everyone has their own project, but we also aim to stay as versatile as possible. We share know-how, work in GitLab, meet weekly, and stay connected through our internal chat.
We value analytical thinking, team spirit, and a drive to find smart solutions. We’re looking for colleagues who want to work on a variety of projects and bring their own ideas to the table.
From screws to software – we build the router from the ground up.
We develop and maintain Turris routers from hardware design and security updates to a user-friendly web interface. We handle the entire process, from prototyping and manufacturing to software development. Part of the project is Turris Sentinel, a security research program featuring honeypots and a dynamic firewall that helps protect both our routers and their users. Our team is divided into support, hardware, and software groups, all connected through the kernel team. Together, we form a well-coordinated crew where everyone has their own specialty – but we’re always open to stepping outside our usual role. We work with OpenWrt, build our own web interface using Python, Flask, and React, and process honeypot data (written in C) using Python, storing it in PostgreSQL and Redis.
An active user community is both our biggest advantage and a constant source of feedback – they’re not shy about telling us what works and what could be better.
Are you into networking, open-source, and embedded systems? Great – we’re looking for people like you. And if you enjoy making complex tech easier to use, even better.

We break things before they break on their own.
We test, verify, give feedback and sometimes happily break things, all to make sure users get software that works the way it should. We’re responsible for the quality of CZ.NIC’s key systems from MojeID and the domain registry to internal tools. Besides testing itself, we also handle technical support, documentation, and feedback on design and specifications. Every project is different, so we use a mix of testing methods – manual and automated, frontend and backend, performance and load testing.
There are ten of us on the team (plus one dog). Each of us has a different specialty, but we work as one – testing, doing code reviews, complementing each other’s skills, and thoroughly checking the software from every angle. Our challenge is finding the right balance between speed and quality. And the best moment? When everything runs smoothly after a release and users get an app that does exactly what they need – just the way it should.
We’re looking for someone who’s independent but knows when to ask for help. We trust each other and have each other’s backs – even when things get intense. And once it’s all behind us, we laugh about it over a beer.
The job is serious. The humor is essential.
We do cybersecurity seriously. Ourselves, not really. We not just protect at CZ.NIC but nationally as the CSIRT.CZ operator. Incident prevention, response, and education are part of our job. Security analysis, penetration testing, and digital forensic analyses are all performed with open source software. And not just do we employ tools but write them ourselves. It's solutions like PROKI or Deny Lists that keep internet users from being exploited, and PROKI has been noted by the cybersecurity industry.
We are a massive incident response, pentesting, system development, and administration team. We have one of us who is an Interpol-trained expert specifically for dealing with child abuse content. We all specialize in different areas but we share information and collaborate in smaller groups based on requirements.
We want people with great technical skills, strong ethics and mission awareness. And if you don't wince at dark, sometimes rather crude humor, then you will be in good company.
It takes calm and patience.
You won't get lost here. We are the first contact point for customers and registrars in need of help with domains or MojeID. It is not merely about answering questions, it is about making a good first impression of CZ.NIC. With each passing day we talk, clarify and look for a solution.
We are a team of ten and we work 24/7, so we take shifts on a rotation basis. We work in an open space office where we make decisions on the fly, but if need be, we also use email or chat. What's the most rewarding part of this work? It matters. We're the first point of contact for everyone, and the way we make things happen impacts how they think about CZ.NIC. And, we look out for each other — we're a tight-knit crew.
If you like to talk, you're patient and can handle the odd demanding customer, we'll teach you the rest. You don't need to know what you're doing, but you must be willing to learn.
Quiet but mighty software for the whole world.
Labs teams maintain public open-source projects. We develop, test, resolve bugs and do support users. We understand network infrastructure but we don’t actually run it. Sometimes, we write an RFC.
Complex data structure swamp is our home. We love and hate the never explored bushes of optimized algorithms. Refactoring is like woodchopping. Demanding and quite hard to do it right, yet important.
Our main projects are BIRD, Knot DNS, Knot Resolver, Datovka a Adam.
